He’s received five Academy Awards & forty-eight nominations, making him the Academy’s second most nominated person in the history of the Oscars. He’s had a forty year artistic partnership with Stephen Spielberg & he penned the themes from Star Wars, Close Encounters, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, Memoirs of a Giesha, Lincoln, just to name a tiny few. & until you see him live with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra you you can’t appreciate the power of his music live.
We have rarely missed one of his appearances here & I have to admit to tears in my eyes as I watch him paired with his iconic music & our iconic symphony. No matter how many times we attend, we still stand up five or six times a performance, demanding encore after encore until he has to beg to be let go! We have to remember he is 81!!
We had front row seats for his performance with Yo-Yo Ma for selections from Memoirs of a Giesha. It was thrilling to listen in to their comments to each other & feel the tremendous connection between those two & all the other musicians. As a bandleader myself, there is nothing more important than this relationship with my musicians.
